In 1840 the Governor Juan Alvarado deeded 4,340 acres to Jose de la Luz Linares. , this was part of a land grant from Mexico to Jose de la Luz Linares. Linares died in 1847, and his widow sold a part of the ranch to Ricardo Vejar the owner of the Rancho San Jose to the east. Diamond Bar is located to the east of downtown of Los Angeles and bounder by Orange and San Bernardino County.

When the United States government took over California, the United State government resurveyed and the land grants they reduce the ownership of Vejar’s land when from over 10,000 acres to 464 acres. In the 1860, Vejar had to borrow money to feed his cattle because a major drought had hit California and he like many others ranchers, could not feed their cattle. Vejar borrow Six hundred dollars at an interest rate of eight percent compounded interest per month from Isaac Schlesinger and Hyman Tischler, Los Angeles merchants that Vejar had been trading withWhen the note was called in, Vejar owned over Twenty eight thousand dollars and could not pay. The property passed over to Schlesinger and Tischler 1864, who Vejar owe the money to.
In 1866, Schlesinger and Tischler sold the ranch to Louis Phillips for $30,000. Phillips later sold a portion of the rancho to William Rubettom, who started a overland stage station as part of the Butterfield route. The overland stage station for the Butterfield route would be today near the 57 freeway and 60 freeway meet today.
In 1873 Wilson Beach and George Butler bought the Rancho and they continue to sell off parcels of the Rancho to a number of different owners. In 1918, Frederich E. Lewis bought most of the original Rancho back and registered the Brand of Diamond Bar with the California Department of Agriculture. In 1943 the now Diamond Bar Ranch was sold to the Bartholome family and was use as a cattle Ranch.
In 1956 the Transamerica Corporation bought 8,000 acres and started the master-planned community of Diamond Bar. The first model home was build in 1960 in the north end of Diamond Bar.
The 2010 United States Census reported that Diamond Bar had a population of 55,544. The population density was 3,731.5 people per square mile (1,440.8/km²). The racial makeup of Diamond Bar was: 29,144 (52.5%) Asian; 18,434 (33.2%) White; 2,288 (4.1%) African American; 178 (0.3%) Native American; 106 (0.2%) Pacific Islander; 3,237 (5.8%) from other races; and 2,157 (3.9%) from two or more races. Hispanic or Latino of any race were 11,138 persons (20.1%).
Diamond Bar is close to several Theme Parks, with Disneyland Resort and Downtown Disney around 20 miles away and Knotts Berry Farm is 25 miles away. 6 Flag Magic Mountain and Universal Studios is less then an hour away. Raging Waters Park is around 5 miles away. The Pomona Fairplex, better known as the Los Angeles County Fair is 6 miles.
Diamond Bar is lest then 30 miles to downtown Los Angeles and within an hour or two from mountain cities like Arrowhead or Big Bear, desert cities I Indio and Plam Springs and cities by the ocean like San Moncia and Long Beach.

There are a number of movie theaters around Diamond Bar, Like the Harkins, a multi-screen theater in Chino Hills, Regal Cinema – Edwards Ontario Palace 22 and IMAX in Montclair or the Cinemark 8 in the city of Chino. There is even a Drive-in, Mission Tiki Drive-in just a small drive away in Montclair.
There are several shopping centers in Diamond Bar with restaurants, markets, fast foods, auto repairs shops and other service stores. The Puente Mall and the Montclair Mall, Victoria Gardens in Rancho Cucamonga and The Mills in Ontario are just minutes away.
Housing prices in general, for single family range from the high $200,000 to over $9,000,000. Condomunim range from just over $100,000 to the mid $650,000.
Since the 1980s Diamond Bar has experienced an influx of Asian American residents, Attracted to the area’s schools and the perceived prestige of a Diamond Bar address.
